We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) to join our Montessori early learning centre. The successful candidate will provide high-quality care and education in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment while supporting children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through Montessori principles.
Key Responsibilities
The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) will be responsible for the following duties:
Plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate programs in accordance with the Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007, How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, and Montessori philosophy.
Prepare and maintain a safe, organized, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate Montessori learning environment.
Present Montessori materials based on each child’s developmental readiness, interests, and individual learning needs.
Observe, document, and assess children’s developmental progress to support individualized learning and program planning.
Maintain children’s developmental progress indicators daily.
Prepare detailed developmental and progress reports using the centre’s designated reporting templates.
Foster children’s independence and support their social-emotional, language, cognitive, and physical development through child-centred, hands-on learning experiences.
Collaborate with Early Interventionists (EI), families, and other professionals to develop, implement, and monitor individualized learning plans and curriculum adaptations for children with diverse developmental, behavioural, and learning needs.
Provide individualized supports and accommodations that promote inclusion, participation, and developmental progress within the classroom.
Identify and respond appropriately to behavioural triggers, including sensory overload, transitions, environmental changes, and other factors affecting children’s regulation and participation.
Recognize early signs of emotional or behavioural dysregulation through ongoing observation and implement proactive intervention strategies in a calm and supportive manner.
Apply positive behaviour support strategies, including redirection, modelling, offering choices, sensory supports, predictable routines, visual supports, social stories, simplified instructions, adapted communication methods, and sensory breaks to support self-regulation and positive behaviour.
Maintain accurate observations, developmental documentation, progress reports, attendance records, and other records in accordance with regulatory and licensing requirements.
Provide daily communication with families regarding children’s progress, routines, and developmental goals.
Conduct Parent-Teacher Meetings to discuss children’s developmental progress, learning goals, and classroom participation.
Provide parenting education and guidance, when necessary and approved by the Supervisor, to support continuity between home and the childcare environment.
Provide classroom leadership by mentoring assistant educators, supporting daily operations, ensuring consistency in Montessori practices, and maintaining a structured and well-prepared learning environment.
Support the daily operation of the centre, including assuming operational responsibilities in the absence of the Principal or Supervisor, when required.
Ensure compliance with the Ontario Child Care and Early Years Act, Ministry of Education licensing requirements, health and safety legislation, and centre policies.
Train, support, and supervise children in developing age-appropriate toileting, self-care, and personal hygiene routines.
Qualifications
2-year Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE), Ontario.
Other Requirements
Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional childcare experience.
Experience working with children 12 months to 6 years of age in a Montessori early learning environment is required.
Demonstrated experience supporting children with special needs and diverse learning abilities, including collaboration with Early Interventionists, families, and other multidisciplinary professionals.
Experience developing and implementing individualized learning plans, curriculum adaptations, and positive behaviour support strategies to meet the developmental and behavioural needs of children requiring additional support.
A clear Vulnerable Sector Check, issued within the last six (6) months, with no pending charges.
Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification (WSIB approved).
Ability to safely lift and carry children weighing up to 50 lbs, as required in the performance of job duties.
Up-to-date medical, TB test, and immunization records required.
Fluent in English (verbal and written)
French an asset
Compensation
$37 per hr (40 hours per Week)
Shift Timing: 7:30am – 3:30pm
